We recommend extracting files to a folder on the Windows desktop , as it's an easy place to remember. Today, many computer and hardware manufacturers are pre-packaging their drivers into executable files or have the drivers installed through the setup file. Double-clicking the executable or setup file should install the drivers to the computer for you. The executable may be packaged in a compressed file , which means before looking for the setup file, it needs to be uncompressed.
For help with uncompressing a file, see: How to extract or decompress a compressed file. If, after uncompressing the file, it still doesn't contain an executable file, setup file, or doesn't install your hardware device, continue with the below recommendations. Finally, if you're successful with installing your drivers and the computer asks to reboot the computer, make sure to reboot the computer after the driver is installed.
A computer or hardware manufacturer may place the drivers on a CD, diskette, or folder on the hard drive for Windows to find and use during its hardware detection. Below are steps on how to install drivers for a new device and upgrade a device's driver for this setup.
If Windows does not detect any new hardware, open the Control Panel and double-click the Add hardware icon to run the hardware detection wizard. During the steps, you have the option to install custom Windows drivers from a location on disk. Choose to load drivers, then select the folder containing the drivers for your device. Finally, if the above recommendations don't work, the installation instructions for drivers and hardware devices can be contained in the driver.

More recently, this is what I've had to do for every update for the past few months. It's getting extremely aggravating, as I have profiles for my games in the control panel and whatnot, that get deleted If that doesn't work, try hitting uninstall and DON'T restart. Make sure you have the drivers downloaded or start in Safe Mode With Networking, and install it in safe mode. Always had massive problems with Ndvidia's drivers, but they always after a long while will fix it.
Best of luck to you buddy. I have had the exact same problem since about August. Makes me think Microsoft has sabotaged something to make us upgrade. I have windows 7 64 bit. I have two computers this does this on, my main system and my laptop with a GTXm. The main system has had a gtx and now a gtx Even with Avast disabled. It's like it installs it correctly, as we get the screen blink, then it backtracks with another screen blink and then the microsoft driver installation found new hardware module takes over and tries to install its driver.
That's why I blame Microsoft for this. It's like needing a crowbar to get the drivers into the system. It uninstalls all the stuff, forces a reboot then an install. The express installation recommended is totally worthless to me. FrostBite said: Makes me think Microsoft has sabotaged something to make us upgrade. I have Windows 10, and it's the exact same problem for me.
It isn't gonna hurt you, Win 10 has some good stuff about it compared to Win 7. Plus Win 10 will be almost the only supported WinOS in a few years, and has a longer life period at this point in time. Plus, FREE upgrade. It has nothing to do with Windows or Microsoft. It pops up with the device installation because, before Nvidia installs your drivers, it uninstalls them.
So after it fails, it's like a "new" device is connected to the computer. This is completely Nvidia's fault, and as I said previously, they'll fix it eventually, we just have to wait. A long time. Thanks guys :P. The only thing that has worked for me is to install without the 3D drivers. Custom install, deselect everything that has 3D in the title and install. Everything else tells me, "install failed! I have a similar problem but i just got a new Nvidia card and when i ever I try to install the driver it always fails at the graphics part.
Try generating you very own thread on the topic. Very few will see the relevance in reviving a thread discussing the last generation's problems, especially since you haven't detailed your system or the software affected.
